I saw this setup by accident on one of my user’s computers and decided to post it just in case anyone is wondering why their column headers show numbers instead of letters in Excel. This is not commonly used but I could imagine that there may be a need for it.

Excel is setup with references that we all should know that contains a combination of both the column letter and row number, example A1.

Another method of referencing contains both rows and columns using numbers. The numbers are differentiated by using the letters “R” for Row and “C” for Column. The selection of row 3 and column 6 would be referred to as R3C6.

To enable R1C1 please use the following steps:

Click File and then select Options.

Click on Formulas.

Select the R1C1 Reference Style check box.

Click on OK.

Antivirus Soft is ultimately one of the smartest malware programs I’ve seen thus far.

Antivirus Soft is a rogue antispyware program from the same family of malware as Antivirus Live. The program is distributed with the help of trojans. When the trojan is started, it will download and install Antivirus Soft onto your computer and configure it to run automatically when you logon to your Windows operating system.

When Antivirus Soft is started, it will imitate a system scan and detect a lot of various infections that will not be fixed unless you first purchase the program. Important to know, all of these reported infections are fake and don’t actually exist on your computer! Please ignore the scan results that Antivirus Soft gives you.

While Antivirus Soft is running, it will block the ability to run any programs as a method to scare you into thinking that your computer is infected with malware.

The image below is an example of the security warnings you may receive:

Antivirus Soft will also flood your computer with warnings and fake security alerts. Some of the alerts:

Windows Security alert
Windows reports that computer is infected. Antivirus software
helps to protect your computer against viruses and other
security threats. Click here for the scan your computer. Your
system might be at risk now.

Antivirus Soft will hijack Internet Explorer so that it will randomly show a warning page with the “Internet Explorer Warning – visiting this web site may harm your computer!” header.

Antivirus Soft is a scam that designed to trick you into purchasing a “full version” of the program. Do not be fooled into buying the software! Below are the uninstall instructions.

How to remove Antivirus Soft

Step 1.

Download HijackThis from here, but before saving HijackThis.exe, rename it first to iexplore.exe and save it to desktop.

If you can`t download the program, the you should repair the proxy settings of Internet Explorer.

Open Internet Explorer.

Click on the Tools menu.

Select Internet Options.

Select the Connections Tab and click on the LAN Settings button.

Uncheck “Use a proxy server” box.

Click OK.

Click Apply.

Click OK.

Double-click on the iexplore.exe application on your desktop in order to run HijackThis.

When the HijackThis main menu opens, click on the “Do a system scan only” button and look for similar lines in the image below:

Note: The list of results in HijackThis may be different and not all items listed are bad. However, the lines that you will be paying attention to are prefixed with ” 04 – HKCU”.

Place a check mark next to each conspicuous result that is bad, this will prepare the selected result(s) to be deleted.

Close all running programs then click on the “Fix checked” button.

Close HijackThis.

Step 2.

Download MalwareBytes Anti-malware (MBAM).

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application. Use all default settings during the installation and make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, then click Finish.

Note: When an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.

Once the program has loaded you will see the following window.

Select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan, it will start scanning your computer for the Antivirus Soft infection. This process may take some time.

When the scan is complete, click OK.

Click on Show Results to view the results. You will see a list of infected items similar as shown below.

Note: the list of infected items may be different than what is shown in the image above.

Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected for start Antivirus Soft removal process.

This is a tricking one indeed because timing is everything. However, don’t be worried if you don’t get it on the first time because that is just the way things are with this method of flashing on this router. This is well worth it with all of the features you will have available to you.
Disclaimer: try this at your own risk; I am not responsible for your actions.
Warning: Reverting back to the original firmware may not be an option once you install Tomato, make sure this suits your needs.
Vista: will require the installation of the tftp client under Add/Remove-Windows Features
The procedures below are based on the presumption that you will be upgrading your Buffalo router with the original firmware.

Download Tomato and extract it. Copy and paste the tomato.trx file on the root of your C: drive.

Perform a hard reset by unplugging the power adapter from the router, then press and hold the reset button and plug in the power adapter. Continue to hold the reset button for one minute.

Insert a network cable from your computer’s Ethernet port to LAN port #1 on the router. This will not work wirelessly.

On your computer go to the Start menu and select on Control Panel, then Network Connections, then right click on your Ethernet card and click on Properties. On the Local Area Connection Properties window click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then click on Properties and change your settings as follows:
IP Address: 192.168.11.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.11.1
Click OK.

Unplug the power adapter to your router.

Open up the command prompt by clicking on your Start menu and select Run then type in CMD and press the Enter key (if you don’t see Run, press your Windows key + R key).

Type in C: and press the Enter key then type in CD\and press the Enter key. You should now see “C:\>“.

Type in “tftp -i 192.168.11.1 put tomato.trx” (Do Not press the Enter key as yet).

Plug in the power adapter to your router.

Quickly press the Enter key when you see that your computer has established a connection to the router.

If You receive a timeout error unplug and plug in the power adapter and repeat steps 8 through 10. If you received successful message wait for at least 2 minutes for the router to be successfully flashed.

Preform another hard reset (see step #2).

The router’s default address is 192.168.1.1. Change your network settings back to “Obtain Automatically” in the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties window. You may access the router by typing in the IP address via web browser.
Username: root
Password: admin

Enjoy!

One reason I should have listened to Microsoft when they stated not to run Office 2007 parallel with Office 2010 Beta. I started to receive the Send/Receive error “Not Implemented”. I am led to believe that this may be caused when you allow the Installer to run while opening up a file in a 2007 Office application.

Many of us made this possible and some well…. Just didn’t.

Mozilla recently sent out a Certificate saying thank you to all that participated and someday this will be a piece of history.

If you copy and paste this link into your browser you too could retrieve a certificate in history and celebrate Mozilla victory in reaching a World Guinness record. If you take a look at the link there is a specification for Firstname and Lastname, just replace it with the corresponding information copy and paste it into you Firefox browser and ta da you have yourself a certificate too!

http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord/certificate?participant=Firstname+Lastname&state=post

I am not sure on how long this will last but if there is a time cap involve I suggest you do this as soon as possible.

Cheers!

To quickly get started using your System Configuration Utility in Microsoft Windows XP and Vista

Go to your Start menu

Select Run and type in MSCONFIG

Select the Startup tab and displayed is all you’re current Startup Items.

You should disable all of the Startup items that you are familiar with which will increase the speed of your Startup time.

A good idea for you to use is to expand the Command column and there it will display the path and file extension. Searching for the file extension in your preferred search engine is the best option that you would take if you were not sure about what to disable and keep enabled.

E.g. I am using iTunes, on the Startup tab in the System Configuration Utility I see iTunes Helper enabled, I am familiar with this application however I have no use for this to impact on my startup performance. Simply I uncheck the box next to iTunes Helper and selected Apply to save my modifications. Thereafter, I was prompted to restart my computer for the changes to take effect.
