I have completed my time with the RCIA group at St Patrick Parish of Bay Shore. This is Easter Vigil (2011) I was confirmed and received communion. My experience was great and time sure does fly by. It makes me think about life in general and how we forget the essence of valued time.

My dad said “It’s not how much you have but how much you remain with” and looking at the statement beyond the obvious context and I am now trying to apply that to my life as a spiritual concept. For that, I say we are here for a reason and we all have our integral roles.

I appreciate my parents baptizing me as an infant into the Catholic Church; it provided solidarity in my decisions today. I appreciate it more for the fact that indirectly I was not cradled into continuing on with my other sacraments but was allowed to choose this for myself. With that my experience was much greater.

This is something that I would prefer not to do but the truth needs to be known in order for corrective measurements of the practitioners and office staff at the South Bay OB/GYN located in West Islip, NY.

Below is a letter that we wrote regarding our poor experience.

To whom it may concern,

I was reading a blurb not too long ago about customer service and I would like to relay the bit of information that I gained from this statement.

“Customer service is an opportunity to serve someone.”

With that, as the husband of one of your long-time patient’s at the South Bay OB/GYN and I am writing to your group due to several occasions where Dr. Margarita Jurak MD and the administrative staff services were less than satisfactory and significantly led to a poor patient experience for my wife and I during our first and current pregnancy.

Our usual wait time on average is about 30 – 60 minutes. At extremes we have waited up to 90 minutes plus, this does not include the wait time in the patient rooms. As business professionals who are both in the Health Care industries, we understand that business fluctuates and have peaks throughout the year. However, there is no clear indication why these extremes have become the norm but we presume that your administrative staff may not have the skill-set to maintain and create a well-organized schedules or Dr. Margarita Jurak may have business initiative goals that are not in the patient’s best interest. We would prefer not to feel like dollar signs when we walk into your facility and would prefer a genuine patient-to-doctor relationship.

At Week 19 we went for an anatomy sonogram. Dr. Margarita Jurak stated that our baby was on the higher side as far her weight but everything else looked ok. It took 15 weeks for this to become a concern and my wife now has to see a nutritionist and follow a diet plan when it will now have a little influence over our baby’s growth. Recently, Dr. Margarita Jurak refers to our baby as an elephant. Similar to the word elephantoid (having a resemblance in a form or appearance of an elephant) the word elephant should be used to describe animal or the medical term elephantiasis. As a professional, you should never refer to someone’s baby as an elephant. We walk into to your office with the utmost respect at all times we deserve a reciprocal amount of respect.

On 5/10/2010 (Week 36) we were scheduled for an appointment. My wife received a call from an administrator which she was not able to attend to at the time. When my wife called back the administrator stated that our appointment would need to be rescheduled. At first, the change in the appointment was due to a power issue. Then hesitantly with a jittery stutter the administrator went on to say that there was a problem with the lights. My wife then called me to share the news that the appointment was canceled and we would have to reschedule. I then decided to call your office back for further detail. I spoke to the operator (ext. 0) and asked what time the office will be open till. She replied, with questions about my wife’s name, what time the appointment was for, and which doctor. After replying to her, she then stated “Legally I am not allowed to speak to you”. I then asked “Is your office open today?” She said “Yes but the doctor is not in today”. I spoke to my wife and then explained to her that Dr. Margarita Jurak was not in and maybe that is the reason why the administrator was hesitant. My wife called back speaking with the same administrator she spoke to prior and asked why was there a need for falsifying information to us. The administrator then said that Dr. Margarita Jurak was in and she was 1 ½ hours behind and quickly reentered our appointment. Upon arrival to your office, there was a clear indication that Dr. Margarita Jurak was not 1 ½ hours behind and we were called in 4 minutes after arriving. Later on, my wife spoke to Dr. Margarita Jurak about our concerns with all the lies we dealt with this day and Dr. Margarita Jurak simply brushed it off saying she does not know what we are talking about. Upon leaving, Dr. Margarita Jurak stated that when we called hopefully we didn’t mispronounce her name in a sarcastic tone.

The South Bay OB/GYN has an opportunity to service patient’s but keep in mind nothing will ever be written in stone. A bad reputation is worst then not having one at all. You can be profitable and keep your patient’s needs a priority.

Thank you,

I remember this day like it was yesterday, visiting IBM, meeting the culture, feeling the people, see the dream. It was real, this was a time of my life that I felt the saying “what you put in is what you get out” it is true. I didn’t get a job with IBM but I received a message that was worth much more. This is what you could get out of an education and sometimes that’s why I miss school.
