Increase your Computer Startup Performance Speed using MSCONFIG
To quickly get started using your System Configuration Utility in Microsoft Windows XP and Vista
- Go to your Start menu
- Select Run and type in MSCONFIG
- Select the Startup tab and displayed is all you’re current Startup Items.
- You should disable all of the Startup items that you are familiar with which will increase the speed of your Startup time.
A good idea for you to use is to expand the Command column and there it will display the path and file extension. Searching for the file extension in your preferred search engine is the best option that you would take if you were not sure about what to disable and keep enabled.
E.g. I am using iTunes, on the Startup tab in the System Configuration Utility I see iTunes Helper enabled, I am familiar with this application however I have no use for this to impact on my startup performance. Simply I uncheck the box next to iTunes Helper and selected Apply to save my modifications. Thereafter, I was prompted to restart my computer for the changes to take effect.
